Cover Shoot with PashaVixen and Bep.Cosplays

Written by Aesthel

Recently we launched our January 2020 issue of Cosplay Realm Magazine, the Anime Issue. This issue features PashaVixen and Bep.Cosplays on the cover, photographed by Cosplay Realm CEO Emily Rey. You can learn more about whats inside this issue in our launch article. Getting to shoot the cover ourselves is something that us here at the Cosplay Realm team are super excited about! Going into 2020 we have a goal to shoot more of the content featured in future issues of the magazine, be that content for articles, cosplayer features, or more covers! So starting 2020 strong with some new original Cosplay Realm content was a huge boost for us, and we wanted to take you guys along behind the scenes of this month’s cover shoot!

This shoot featured Pasha Vixen as Asuka and Bep.Cosplays as Rei, both from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Evangelion was the perfect subject material for our Anime Issue, so we were thrilled to shoot these cosplays! Evangelion is such a classic in the world of anime, so it was really great to have it represent our Anime Issue this month.

Here are some photos from the behind the scenes of our shooting day! Our photos were shot by Emily Rey, but fellow cosplayers and photographers Amie and Cole were also there shooting their own photos too! While they were all shooting photos, Aesthel was shooting video content for our behind the scenes vlog, which you can find at the end of this article!

This photoshoot was done back in October of 2019 when Bep traveled up to the New England area, where the rest of us are based out of. We were so thankful to have the opportunity to shoot together while Bep was up for her travels! Traveling is really great for both cosplayers and photographers to get the chance to shoot together that they otherwise may not have had. Previously we had only gotten the chance to shoot Bep’s work at Katsucon, and Emily has previously shot with Pasha at Portcon Maine. It was very refreshing to be able to shoot on location with these two without the barriers that shooting at conventions can sometimes bring. The location we shot these cosplays at was at Old Orchard Beach in Maine near the currently closed down theme park. While we couldn’t actually go into the park area, it was still pretty neat to get some of the views of the rides and lights in the background of some of these photos! The park is also a very short walking distance to the beach, and Amie took a couple of photos out on the sand too! Even though it was October and the majority of the area was closed down for the winter, there was still a couple of people walking around. Shooting cosplay in public like this can always be kind of crazy as people like to stare and ask questions, but we generally weren’t bothered too much during this photoshoot!

Emily’s photos mostly focused on poses with Bep and Pasha together, as we of course wanted both of them on the cover of our Anime Issue! But we made sure to also get some solo shots of both of their cosplays. Pasha had this totally awesome prop of the Spear of Longinus, and it photographed so well! Props always add so much to cosplay shoots and can really help when coming up with poses for the cosplayer and help get in character.

Be sure to check out our vlog if you would like to see more behind the scenes of this photoshoot! Come along with us as we walk around, shoot photos, laugh and joke, and have an overall great time together!
